Patti Pao: The Story Behind Our Night Cream and Serum

Why Use a Night Cream

Night time is when skin does its heavy lifting. Like the rest of the body, skin does the bulk of its repairing, restoring, and regenerating while we sleep, so night creams are focused on moisture and recovery.

Why I Created the Restoring Night Cream

Generally, I go to bed around 1am and wake up at 5am.  As a result, when I woke up and looked at my skin, I was horrified to see that it looked dull, lifeless and slack.  I wanted to create a night cream that worked with the skin’s natural regenerative process so that upon awakening, my skin would look plump, vibrant and glowing.

Our R&D director, Ike Alabata, a cosmetics’ formulation genius told me that I was insane and that he was “hanging up on me.”  That being said, he is a genius, and he created a unique and patent pending formula based on an olive oil emulsion which houses our proprietary and exclusive Vibransea™ complex and oat extract which soothes skin and minimizes redness and irritation.  Don’t let the light fluffy cream texture deceive you.  The Restoring Night Cream provides intense hydration and anti-aging benefits so that you will wake up to the appearance of diminished lines and wrinkles and a radiant, glowing complexion.

How to Properly Apply a Night Cream

Apply at night to clean skin.  Store in a cool, dry place.

What is a Serum?

Serums are specially designed to be very potent and specially formulated to maximize penetration into the skin.  The most common question I receive is, “Why should I use a serum?

The main reason you want to use a serum is to have a more potent and effective method to deliver active ingredients into the skin.   The serum’s ability to go deeper into the skin is what allows it to help combat many common beauty complaints.

Why I created the Renormalizing Serum

Fun Fact:  Serums are the top selling skincare item at Bergdorf Goodman.  The buying team specifically requested that Restorsea add a serum to our line ASAP.

We created our serum to address the needs of users who wanted increased hydration and brighter more vibrant looking skin.

The Renormalizing Serum is formulated to have DOUBLE the amount of our proprietary patent-pending Vibransea complex and contains the Songyi Mushroom which is a natural and safe skin lightening extract that lightens, brightens and evens skin tone.

How to properly apply a serum

In order to maximize its effectiveness, all serums need to be applied directly to clean skin morning AND evening.  Cleanse and if necessary apply toner and then apply a dime-size amount of the Renormalizing Serum.  Follow with Rejuvenating Day Cream or Restoring Night Cream.

Your Skin Needs R&R After Undergoing a Peel. Find Out Why.

After you’ve had a peel, you want to take care of your skin because it is especially fragile.  The reason why is that peels work like napalm with the enzyme “eating” both living and dead skin cells.  The result is new, fresh baby skin that needs to be pampered and protected.

Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen. For 48 hours after a peel, try to avoid direct exposure to the sun as much as possible. And always use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher if you’re heading outdoors and remember to reapply.

Don’t use make-up for at least 2 hours after a peel.

Don’t sweat or exercise for 12 hours after a peel. This is commonly recommended because excessive sweating may cause itchiness of your skin and you don’t want to over-stress your skin by getting it dirty and sweaty through exercise.

Avoid using AHA/BHA or Retinol products. For at least 5 days after a glycolic peel, you should not use any glycolic acid, lactic acid or salicylic acid creams/lotions. Don’t use any retinoid based treatments like Retin-A, Differin, Tazorac as well. You should also avoid using topical acne medication like benzoyl peroxide if possible. You can usually resume your treatments after 5 days or longer unless you feel as if your skin is still sensitive and needs more rest.

I would also avoid using Restorsea™ for at 3-5 days.  While our proprietary enzyme, Aquabeautine XL® only “eats” dead skin cells thereby enabling you to safely use Restorsea every day, the baby skin revealed by the peel should be left to heal.

The good news is that using Restorsea between peel treatments actually prolongs the effect of the treatment. Prior to using Restorsea, I had to get glycolic peels every 6 weeks. Since using Restorsea, I only have to get a glycolic peel once every six months.

Restorsea and Retin A, the two R’s that Don’t Mix

Since we currently have a Day Cream (and an Eye Cream), I receive a number of letters from Restorsea users who want to know if they can use their Retin-A product at night.  My answer to them is a resounding NO.

Retin-A is the GOLD standard of skincare.  There is nothing that works better.  However, most people have extremely adverse reactions to using Retin-A.  This takes the form of peeling, flakiness, redness and photo-sensitivity.  The reason is because it exfoliates BOTH living and dead skin cells causing skin to thin.  This mechanism of action is very irritating to most skin.  And the only way to cure the irritation is to stop using Retin-A and abstain from any form of exfoliation.

While Restorsea is all natural, the foundation of its products, the enzyme Aquabeautine XL® has three proteins:  1) the first exfoliates, 2) the second reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and 3) the third strengthens and thickens the appearance of skin.  Unlike Retin-A,  AHA/BHAs, Retin-A and physical exfoliants, all of which attack living and dead skin cells, Restorsea’s enzyme is unique because it only eats dead skin cells allowing the living cells to survive and thrive.  As a result, you can use Restorsea daily with no side effects.
